Some say his relatives make them for him. Some say it's just stuff Allen wears to look cool and colorful. Most people, though, think that they have a deeper meaning and are an inspiration for Allen when playing. A lot of people have been asking me about this new "thang". I've tried to dig deeper into this mystery. Here's what I have found out.

THE ANSWER as Allen calls himself.Allen wears this wristband just about every game

There's probably no deep, religious reason for wearing theses rubber bands. I believe Allen wears them for inspiration, but it could also be that he simply wears them because he likes to decorate himself and be a colorful person. He sometimes wears rubber bands on both wrist, sometimes two on one wrist.Sometimes black. According to a fan I've been in contact with, Mo Cheeks and several other guards wear rubber bands for one reason: When committing a turnover, they snap their rubber bands to punish themselves. I dunno if this is the reason Allen wears rubber bands, but it's possible.

This last season, Iverson has been wearing a sweatband on his elbow with the #13 on it. This is, apprarantly to honor late Wilt Chamberlain who died early in 2000. Wilt was, as probably most of you know, a Philly basketball legend and NBA legend. I've also seen Tyrone Hill wearing a similar sweatband. Hill wears it to honor former teammate Bobby Phills who died in a car accident this spring.

Seems like every NBA player wears this new wristband these days. The wristbands come in all colors and feature a writing saying "W.W.J.D", meaning What Would Jesus Do. According to some Christians I've been in touch with, Christians look at this wristband whenever their in the middle of a heated situation to think of what Jesus woulda done in a similar situation. Iverson, who is a Christian himself, probably wears this one to tell the world that he has a close relationship with God. I have seen Allen wear red and black ones. He started wearing these W.W.J.D. wristbands in the playoffs last season, and since then Isiah Rider, Allan Houston and several other NBA players have started wearing them. They don't cost much and are probably available somewhere near you.

Other Bands

Iverson often wears some black bands around his wrist. Like the rubber bands, these are probably just some cool looking wristbands that Allen wears to look good or use for inspiration. I've heard rumors about his children making some of them for him, but I dunno if this is true. If it is, Allen probably wears them for inspiration and because he wants to show the world that he deeply loves his children. Iverson has worn red, white and black wristbands during games.
